Pivot vs. Quit

Every time August rolls around I start thinking about ways to set myself up for the home stretch that happens as we prepare to move into the last-ish bits of the year. The Back to school season helps to put this into motion for me. No matter where you go you see all the back to school stuff cropping up in shops and the energy begins to buzz with all things school, structure, and study.

One of the biggest things that I get asked about is how to move from one area of your life into another one. This is a question I receive from professionals wanting to do something new or different, parents wanting to find balance, and folks who feel a bit at a loss for what’s next for them and their life.

I think we can all relate in some way to those places and spaces of life where you can feel that things are changing for you in big ways. Sometimes, we welcome the changes because we’ve been working toward them for some time, and other times it feels like the change is dragging us along for the ride, maybe kicking and screaming.

No matter what it may look like, change is healthy and an important part of personal growth. You know that old adage, change is the only constant. Well, it’s definitely true, however we can learn to lean into change in a way that may make the transition feel a little bit smoother.

No matter where you are right now, today; the great news is that you can be leaning into where you want to go. Sometimes people who are making really big changes tell me that they feel like they’re being forced to start all over again and that it feels too overwhelming.

The truth is that in most cases we aren’t quitting everything we’ve ever known or worked for but rather we’re being asked to pivot.

Pivot vs. Quit

Take that in for a moment.
They feel different in your gut when you connect to them.
Pivot vs. Quit

Can you feel the feeling of Pivot? Of Quit?
One feels like a shift and one feels like defeat.

The great news is that no matter where you are today, you’ve learned and experienced so many things that you take with you no matter where you go. You may not use them all every day but they’re all with you. Nothing is ever lost and nothing is ever wasted.

While we organically move into different chapters of our lives, it’s natural to feel grief as some things shift out of your life, the truth is that your life experience gets to go with you to your new chapter.

  • If you want to start something new
  • If you want to pivot into a new career
  • If you want to invest in a passion project
  • If you want to move to a new community

Please give yourself permission to lean into those callings.
Use the gifts that you have learned, mastered, and hold within you to begin the process that will move you forward.

If your something new feels like there’s a loss connected to it, reach out for support.
While you’re reaching out for support, pick up something that you love that’s been set upon a shelf for whatever reason. Maybe you haven’t had the time to get to it or it became a lower priority due to your schedule being full; now is a great time to fill yourself up with the things that bring you joy and comfort while you move through this transition.

Sometimes, we are asked to permanently close a door and that’s okay too.
We can feel when things are finished and have come full circle for us.
When you know, you know; so go ahead and close that door, lock it tight and move forward.

However, if you find yourself throwing your arms up and starting and stopping things all the time, it may be time to take a look at that.
If you are constantly quitting, constantly finding yourself in upheaval, and constantly in overwhelm, it may be time to take a look at that.

At the end of the day there is a big difference between Pivot and Quit.

If you are always quitting, there’s a reason.
If you give yourself permission to look at the reason and work through it you’ll find that you can begin to move forward in a way that allows you to gain traction in your life. (You may need to ask for help, that's okay.)

Traction leads to more joy, happiness, and life satisfaction.

No matter where you’re at today, don’t give up on yourself or your dreams for your life. If you find yourself in a season of endings and beginnings, look for ways to Pivot to where you want to be. Use your tenacity, insight, get up and go attitude, and your well of information and life experience to reach out for that next step on your path.

You do have what it takes.
You are enough.
You’re not too old.
You’re not too young.
It’s not too late.
What can you do today to move one step closer to the place you want to be? ___________________

Great, now give yourself permission to take action on your step.

Small actions always lead to big change over time.
Invest in the power of Pivot within your life, today.
Invest in yourself.
You’re worth it!

I’m standing shoulder to shoulder with you and cheering you on as you use this back to school time to propel you forward. I know you can do it!
With so much love and support,
Kristy~xoxo
